This Summit also aims to strengthen the University’s partnership with various industry leaders, beneficial in spurring innovation and driving economic growth towards sustainable development.“We’d like to ask industry leaders, what are your priority areas for research because we have experts here in the University. Equally, we can also use their expertise to
broaden the perspectives inside our classrooms,” PUP President Manuel Muhi underscores the need for collaboration because it can create valuable opportunities to foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and mutually beneficial outcomes.
Bridging gaps between education and employment would be best met when key stakeholders from the government, academe, and industry meet. The common challenge of job mismatch would then be addressed more effectively, Dr. Muhi adds. He explains that while our syllabi and curriculum would always be updated to meet contemporary needs, nothing beats practice and workplace expertise, relating to his own experience as a Civil Engineering graduate.
Dr. Muhi also adds that this collaboration offers a significant opportunity for learners enrolled in the University’s pioneering program Education-on-Wheels (EOW). The pilot batch of students come from Smokey Mountain, an urban slum community at the heart of Manila.“Partners can extend their help to the students by providing them scholarships, monthly allowances to motivate them to continue to study, or through equipment such as laptops or tablets which can be used for remote classes,” Dr. Muhi explains. EOW is literally a school bus designed as a classroom, with students taking a bachelor’s degree in office administration.
It is envisioned to bring free higher education right at the doorstep of Filipino households.Towards this end, PUP believes that the GIA Summit will complete the cycle of knowledge transfer, with greater benefits to the students the University vows to serve.“Ang lahat ng ito ay ginagawa namin para sa mga estudyante, para maging matagumpay silang propesyunal at makatulong sa kanilang mga pamilya. Higit sa lahat, makatulong sa ikauunlad ng ating bayan.”
